






























































The place is Eastern Hokkaido, the far eastern edge of Japan. On winter mornings the temperature falls to between −10°C and −20°C. In those coldest hours, a drone rises to about 50 meters.

From the ground, it is just a frozen river. But the moment you look straight down, it turns into an abstract painting. Ice, water, light — the line between landscape photography and abstract art quietly disappears.

KAIE is the work of a photographer who also runs canoe tours in Eastern Hokkaido — someone who lives on this land and knows which river, on which dawn, will reveal the ice.
